P-32/P3AT Trigger ShoeBack to Kel-Tec stuffI would not suggest just getting a trigger shoe from Kel-Tec and putting it on the P-32 or P-3AT. It will make the trigger wider than the trigger guard. This is not good because it may catch on the lip of the holster when you try to holster it, which could cause the gun to go off. Also even if you narrow the shoe to less width than the guard, some holsters use the trigger guard for retention (like Kydex) and actually dip into the guard area, which could cause the same thing, accidental discharge. Use extreme caution with or without a trigger shoe with these types of holsters and check very closely the clearances between the holster and the trigger (with and unloaded fire arm of course) before attempting to carry with it. Bottom line, if you are not sure DON'T DO IT!! The first thing I did was grind down the sides of the trigger shoe (remove the set screws) to be slightly more narrow than the trigger guard. Here you can see how much I took off: click to enlarge here it is installed and you can see it is completely hidden by the trigger guard (showing it is more narrow than the guard):
After making the shoe more narrow, the set screws were too long and stuck out way to far from the trigger, so instead of shortening them, I drilled 2 1/16" holes in the trigger where they made a mark. This allowed the set screws to be screwed in all the way flush with the side of the trigger shoe. click to enlarge Then I wire wheeled it to take off the sharp edges, used some 400 grit sand paper to smooth the sides a bit, and painted it semi gloss black (I now see I should have used flat black to more match the frame, but it is close enough). click to enlarge I attached it with black RTV silicone (Later JB Welded the shoe on for a more permanent attachment) from the autoparts store, so it will stay put but I can remove it if I wish. I used a dremel to widen where the trigger goes through the grip when you remove the frame so that the trigger shoe does not have to be removed to take the frame out of the grip. click to enlarge |
